Quarter Inch Margins

Posted by Aaron:

As some of you who read this blog know, I enjoy writing, playing and recording music. While I don't write or record as much as I'd like to (especially in the last year with all the moving, adoption, garage renovating, etc) I do get the chance to every now and then. I wrote and recorded a song this past week and I thought I'd share it.

The basic concept of the song is the idea of having so much going on in your life that there's no room for ANYTHING extra and wanting to change that. I had a conversation with a friend last week and we were discussing how everything that we're doing in our lives are "good" things, but we need to be focused on doing the BEST things. Where do we give God room to do the extraordinary in our lives if we leave no room or time for anything out of the ordinary?

At any rate - enjoy the song. If you don't enjoy it, that's fine too - hopefully you get something out of the text in this post. ;)

Lyrics:

Time is not the friend that you think it's always been
'Cuz time will always outrun you
Let's run a little faster, avoid this near disaster
Spare another minute or two

My page is getting fuller, the space can't get much tighter
And I'm feeling like I'm I've lost my soul
Time is not the answer, 'cuz life's just getting faster
Despite what I think I know

I'm living with quarter inch margins

God won't you help me tonight
To stop thinking all I need is more time
God won't you help me tonight
These quarter inch margins are tight

My friend could use a hand with his marriage near it's end
But I've got another thing to do
His constant invitations becoming irritations
Just give me a second or two

I'm living with quarter inch margins

God won't you help me tonight
To stop thinking all I need is more time
God won't you help me tonight
These quarter inch margins are tight

Wow, Aaron! What an insightful song. I had a similar conversation on Sunday with a friend about making better use of my time. Also, as I was listening to some music last night (Dan Fogelberg), I couldn't help but think how cool it is how music seems to just totally eminate from some people's souls. I thought of you and how you have been blessed with that gift! Thanks for the encouragement in your song and also the enlightenment it brings about how life is so many times. I love you so much and am so thankful you are my son!!!

That's awesome, Aaron! Almost as good as the one you wrote me for my wedding...that still makes me cry like a baby every time I listen to it. :)

The lyrics are so applicable to all of our lives...a good reminder that we need to constantly be asking God to help us prioritize in all areas of our lives!

You know, if Ash does what she wants to do, you should collaberate with her sometime... you could end up rich and famous like she is going to be!

On a more serious note.... I loved your song! It rings true for how I am feeling right now and I'm sure I am not the only one. Way to go cuz!! Love you guys! Hope you are doing well!
